The Browser Company Says Arc Browser Shuts Down December 22, Points Users to Dia

New Arc sign-ups have stopped, and the company is moving its security and engineering work to its AI browser, Dia.

The Browser Company is shutting down its Arc browser and steering users to Dia, its AI-first browser, according to TechCrunch on October 22, 2026. The company cites the growing cost of keeping a browser secure in the AI era and says its engineering and security teams will focus on Dia.

TechCrunch lists the timeline. New Arc accounts can no longer be created as of the announcement. On November 23, Arc Search on iOS and Android loses its AI features, including Browse for Me, and sign-in and tab sync stop. On December 22, Arc stops working on Mac and Windows, accounts are deactivated, and personal data is deleted within 30 days.

For people who switch, TechCrunch says passwords, bookmarks, extensions and history transfer to Dia, which offers Profiles (formerly Spaces), optional vertical tabs and Pinned Tab Groups (formerly Folders). Arc's features are free in Dia and AI is optional, per the report. The Browser Company was acquired by Atlassian for $610 million in 2025, TechCrunch notes.

Why it matters for your business

If you or your team use Arc, pick a switch date well before December 22 and move your saved logins and bookmarks first. Check that any work extensions you rely on carry over, and export anything you want to keep before your data is deleted.
