Figma Announces Specs, Code Layers and More Tools to Steer Its Design Agents
At its first Config event in India, Figma added a way to write down your design rules so AI agents follow them.
Figma announced new features to define how AI agents work on its platform, according to TechCrunch, at its first Config event in India.
The headline feature is Figma Specs, a Markdown editor where a team writes down its design language. Teams and agents can use it as a reference while designing, and it can link to canvas elements, FigJam diagrams, code layers and designs. Figma also lets teams add design libraries, code libraries and guidelines to one system that agents can read.
Code layers, which add code to canvas designs for more interactive prototypes, moved from private beta (since June 2026) to public beta. You can ask the agent to turn a design into code or edit part of it. Figma also says its MCP (a standard way for AI tools to connect to each other) now supports more than 20 new tools, and it is integrating the Payload content management system with Figma Make to build dynamic websites. TechCrunch did not report pricing.
Figma's chief design officer Loredana Crisan told TechCrunch that code output has grown much faster than releases, 17 times more lines of code against 1.3 times more releases.
If you or your designer already use Figma, write down your brand rules once (colors, fonts, tone) so an AI agent stops guessing. If you do not use Figma, there is nothing to do yet. Watch for pricing details, since the report did not give any.
