ChatGPT vs. Claude: Which AI Assistant Fits a Small Business?

Both start at $20 a month and both offer team plans at $25 a seat. The real split is breadth of tools versus quality of writing and focus.

ChatGPT vs Claude is the most common choice a small business faces when it is ready to pay for an AI assistant. On price they are close to identical: a $20 personal plan, and team seats at $25 a month or $20 billed annually. The difference is in what you get. ChatGPT is the broader toolkit, with image generation, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs. Claude is the more focused writing, analysis and coding partner, and it swept Tom's Guide's seven-round head-to-head in April 2026.

Our take

Pick ChatGPT if you want one assistant that does a bit of everything, especially images for social posts and scheduled reminders, or if a cheaper ad-supported tier appeals for light use. Pick Claude if most of your AI time goes to writing, editing, summarizing long documents or building small tools, where reviewers consistently rate its output higher. Team pricing is the same, so let one real week of work decide: try both free plans on the same three tasks before paying.
