Trello vs. Asana: Which Project Tool Fits a Small Team?

Trello is a simple card board with a 10-person free plan. Asana gives more structure, but its free plan stops at two people.

Both tools help a small team see who is doing what. Trello keeps it light with boards and cards. Asana adds timelines, reporting and automations as you grow, and charges more for them.

Our take

Pick Trello if you have a small team, want to be set up this afternoon, and need a free plan that fits up to 10 people. Pick Asana if you need timelines, reporting and approvals, and can pay about twice as much per user at the entry paid tier. If you are one or two people, Asana's free plan is also generous.
